How Do You Care for Linen Clothing? To increase your linen clothing’s longevity and get the most wear out of them, read our tips below. Always read the care label on your garment carefully, as instructions will vary. How to Wash Linen Clothing? As a general rule, most linen clothing can be hand washed or cleaned using a washing machine. Both our pure linen and linen blend shirts, pants and shorts can be washed with either method. The exception to this is our linen sports jackets and blazers, which are dry clean only. Hand washing: To hand wash linen, turn your garment inside out and submerge it in lukewarm water for about ten minutes. Always use mild detergent and avoid scrubbing the fabric, as this can damage the fibres. Washing machine: Some linen clothing is machine washable, so be sure to check the tag beforehand. If this is the case, wash using a gentle cycle with similar colours. Avoid harsh detergents as this can weaken the fibres. Always use lukewarm water (a maximum of 40°C) to prevent shrinkage. What are the Benefits of Linen? Linen has sustained its popularity as a fabric due to its many benefits: It’s strong and durable, making it an ideal fabric for everyday items and luxury pieces. It’s suitable for sensitive skin. Linen is naturally antibacterial and pathogen-resistant due to its moisture-wicking properties. It’s environmentally friendly. As a natural fibre, linen is recyclable and biodegradable if untreated. It’s versatile. Linen is lightweight and breathable to wear during summer, while flax, from which linen is made, has thermal properties and is used in insulation products. How to Dry Linen After washing, avoid wringing your garment as it can damage the fibres and create extra creasing. Linen dries quickly, so we recommend placing your garment on a clothes hanger and letting it air dry naturally. Avoid tumble drying linen, as the heat can shrink the fabric and impact its longevity. Plus, air drying is much better for the environment. How to Iron Linen Clothing While air drying can help get wrinkles out of linen clothing, you may want to iron your garment to achieve an extra crisp look. First, lightly dampen your garment with water to help loosen up the fibres—you can use the spray function on your iron if it has it. After a few minutes, iron using the highest level of heat and steam. For more tips, you can read our step-by-step guide on How to Iron A Shirt. Alternatively, you can buy a garment steamer to remove stubborn wrinkles from linen clothing. How to Store Linen Clothing? Avoid folding your linen clothing as this will cause further creasing. We recommend storing linen, shirts, jackets and pants on hangers to help them maintain their shape. How to Wear Linen Clothing for Men?
