What would we be without our Mothers? After the past 2 years we know this Mother’s Day will stand out above all others. It has been truly inspiring to watch all our Mothers balance working, home-schooling and caring in the past year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Mothers at GAZMAN who have helped inspire, build resilience and love those around them in the past year and throughout our journey We would also like to thank all the wonderful women that shop with us at GAZMAN. Your loyalty is appreciated by us as much as it is by the men you shop for. This year we asked a few of our staff members how their mums have inspired them in both fashion and in life! Angelina Chiu - Product Development Assistant How has your mum or woman in your life inspired you this year? My mum, who’s my best friend, inspires me every year but this past year particularly, she’s shown a lot of her compassion. We regularly have discussions about worldly issues and there is never a moment where she lacks empathy for other people in our conversations. She’s truly a role model for me. What is a clothing hack you have learned from your mum? I used to singe a lot of my clothes during my adolescence attempting to iron my clothes. The trick, mum said, besides actually turning the nozzle onto the right fabric mode, is to always iron your garments with a cloth in between the fabric and the iron so you always have an added layer of protection. I can’t remember the last time I singed my clothes (thank god). How did your mum inspired your fashion choices today? Since I was a child, mum has always forced me to bring a jacket out with me wherever I go. As a child, I found carrying an extra garment bothersome but I’ve come to appreciate it in adulthood. The amount of times she’s saved me from hypothermia is astounding. I will never leave home without one, even during hot Summer days - particularly in temperamental Melbourne weather. Tayla - ECommerce Coordinator How has your mum or woman in your life inspired you this year? My Mum AKA Shaz, has always been an extremely positive and motivated person - a bit of a machine really. She has taught me to believe that things always happen for a reason and only you can change your attitude. Over the past year she has continued to inspire me to always stay positive and happy. People gravitate towards my mum’s happiness and that is inspiring. What is a clothing hack you have learned from your mum?Along with the importance of running an iron over your clothes, my Mum has always pushed me to be savvy in reviving a broken piece with a couple of strategic stitches and a bit of love. How did your mum inspire your fashion choices today? My Mum and Gran both taught me to buy quality materials. This steered me from some questionable quick fashion choices in my youth. Today my clothing purchases are a combination of what materials will last and what is in fashion at the time. I try to buy good quality basics and mix them with something quirky and fun. Sian - Production & Design Room Manager How has your mum or woman in your life inspired you this year? This past year for all of us has been a strange one thanks to Covid. As part of that, how my mum has inspired me has been different from previous years. This year my mother stepped up big time during the long lock down that we experienced here in Melbourne. She moved my family in with her and stepped straight into the role of schoolteacher for my primary aged sons so that my husband and I could continue to work. And she did it the full way- from pop-quizzes to recording the sound effects for the grade 1 drama play. My mum taught me that whatever life throws at you, you have to adapt quickly and get the job done. What is a clothing hack you have learned from your mum?My mother loves to shop. but even better than that she has the best clothes cleaning hacks. Everything I never knew- from getting the whitest whites, to getting permanent marker off shirts. But the best clothes hack she has ever taught me is the importance of a great ironing/ steaming set up. This was a game changer for me. How did your mum inspire your fashion choices today? While my mother and I have different clothing taste, what I did learn from her was the importance of a great bag & shoe. From a young age she dressed us in all sorts of things that my father picked up on his overseas business trips. And even now I have some of her bags and scarves that really add to any of my outfits. We do not always agree; Mum loves a matchy matchy accessory whereas I like a bold statement accessory. She taught me the importance of them. And for that I am grateful. Lesa Washusen - Garment Technician How has your mum or woman in your life inspired you this year? My mother-in-law Robbie who graciously looks after my 4 year old little girl Maya once a week has inspired me to be grateful for everything that I have and to appreciate what I have in my life. What is a clothing hack you have learned from your mum? Always have the basics and the classics covered. Timelessness is eternal. But also she watched me experiment with fashion and have fun with it as I had seen photos of her in some excellent outfits from the 60’s/70’s! I found some excellent finds in the op shops of Albury recreating vintage vibes in my teens! How did your mum inspire your fashion choices today? Mum always made an effort to make sure we had a great outfit for a special occasion. She loved a new outfit herself and I definitely got that from her! I wore this gorgeous crotchet lace dress that she once owned to my mother-in-law’s Birthday lunch not long ago! To all the Mothers, Daughters, Aunties, Nans and powerful women in between that support GAZMAN we thank you for all your magnificence and wish you a Happy Mother’s Day!
